1. True or False? With the bases are loaded with 2 out in the bottom of the 1st inning on a hot dry day, the batter hits a high top-spin grounder towards second base. The ball takes a hard bounce on the dry ground in the batters’ circle before going high in the air. The second baseman should wait to read the 2nd hop before deciding whether to charge or give ground.
2. True or False? There are runners at 1st and 3rd and no outs in a tie game in the 7th inning. The batter takes a hard swing at an off-speed pitch and hits the ball back to the pitcher. The aggressive runner at third breaks for home. Rather than try for the double play, the pitcher should do everything he can to keep the run from scoring.
3. True or False? There is a runner at 1st in the bottom on the 9th inning of an elimination game. The batter gets a bunt down as the runner takes off. The excited pitcher slips as he fields the bunt on the 3rd base line. To have the best chance at fielding the throw, the first baseman should stand upright on this play.
