Congratulations on receiving interest from college baseball programs! Your ability to communicate well throughout the recruiting process is one of the tests that coaches will use to see if you are ready to handle the responsibility of playing college baseball. Step 6 is also an important time for you to gather the information you need about a program/coaching staff/team/school. As you get to know the coaches better, you will have plenty of time to ask questions and get the information you need about each program. This information will help you decide if a program is a good fit for what you are looking for in a college baseball experience. Don’t shy away from asking questions that will give you the information you need to make an educated and informed decision, even when they are difficult.
It’s also important to note that just as you get excited when a college coach shows interest in you, coaches also want to feel the love. At this stage, consistency and responsiveness are a big deal. Express your interest to coaches directly and show them you are interested by responding in a timely manner and being consistent with communication and attention to detail. It’s likely that each program is talking to at least a handful of recruits like you at the same time, so your ability to communicate and connect will go a long way to separating you from the rest of the recruits. In Step 6 you will:
- Ask important questions to and get important information from college coaches
- Establish consistent and responsive patterns of communication
- Get to know coaches on a more personal level
- Work towards setting up campus visits at programs of interest
And much more!
Remember, you are looking for the same thing as college coaches: a fit. There’s nothing to be nervous about, it’s just as much the job of college coaches to impress you as it is your job to impress them. You have a lot of common interests (baseball!) and should have a lot to talk about. Enjoy picking the brains of some of the best baseball minds in the country and continue to search for your fit!
