KPB Programs & Services: Free Camps & Clinics

Free camps and clinics have becoming a focal point of ours since the pandemic eliminated many free play opportunities for ballplayers. Since 2021, we’ve partnered with MLB, college, and high school players to offer free camps and clinics for thousands of Little League-age kids. Learn more below!

Free Camps & Clinics

UNITING BASEBALL COMMUNITIES
WITH FREE PLAY OPPORTUNITIES

In partnership with Sacramento area native and former MLB catcher, Andrew Knapp, KPB partners with local high school baseball programs to run free single-day clinics. When we started back up after the pandemic in 2021, the clinics served one league. In 2026, we’ll run them at four separate leagues. Each year the January clinic series serves around 250 Little Leaguers. Players show up excited to play baseball and learn new skills but leave with much more.

High school players join Knapp and our KPB staff as volunteer instructors and role models for the younger camp participants. The Little Leaguers learn baseball skills from older versions of themselves and the high school instructors awe campers with a glimpse of what they can become if they keep playing the game. Each camp fosters a feeling of unity and togetherness for the baseball community it serves and offers a transformational experience for all participants.

Countless smiles and autograph requests illustrate the positive influence the high school mentors have on the campers. 98% of parents to complete our post-clinic survey in 2024 and 2025 said that interactions with coaches had a positive impact on their child’s baseball experience. The parent of a 10 year-old camper described this impact: “This camp was well coordinated and amazing for all the kids. My son was hesitant to attend but really enjoyed all the interaction with coaches and especially the high schoolers. He is excited and can’t wait for baseball to start.”

While the Little Leaguers leave with a sense of hope and awe from the older players, our high school volunteers often walk away feeling empowered by their influence and the realization of how much the participants look up to them. Many express gratitude for the ability to give back to their community and role model what the campers can become. One high school mentor reflected, “I really like working with the younger kids. I remember going to [college] camps and really looking up to the older guys. It also helps our high school program show what we’re all about.”

The benefit of KPB’s free camps and clinics goes well beyond skill acquisition and the special connection between campers and coaches. Free play opportunities break down community barriers in ways that few other programs can. By eliminating financial barriers, the clinics assist in promoting social inclusivity and diversity in the community. Campers from all backgrounds enjoy a fun and engaging baseball experience with peers they may not have the opportunity to play with at paid camps.

Financial barriers that divide kids in many aspects of society are broken down through a shared interest in baseball and an opportunity for all to participate. Since re-starting our in-person programming in 2022, the clinics have hosted close to 1,000 players.

Clinics bring together players of all ages from the same community. From high school and college mentors to Big Leaguers, clinics show participants where they will be a few years down the road if they keep playing baseball!
Campers compare baseball cards they received during a KPB clinic. Cards help campers get excited about baseball at all levels and engage with MLB players and teams.

In addition to skill development stations and game play, it's a great opportunity for kids to get back on the field with friends and teammates they haven't played with since last spring.

Coming Soon: Summer Camps!

Summer 2026 will mark our first summer running a free, week-long youth baseball camp. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
