KPB Programs & Services: Registration Assistance

Our Registration Assistance Program (RAP) partners with youth baseball leagues to directly pay league fees for families who cannot afford them, eliminating financial barriers to participation.

Why are registration assistance programs important?

49% of U.S. adults have struggled to afford fees, equipment, uniforms, travel and other costs associated with their child's sports
16% of adults say they quit sports as a child because it was too expensive or unaffordable
Adults who kept playing organized sports through their youth have fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression than those who never played or those who dropped out before 18.
Sports participation among boys is declining. In 2023, 41% of boys ages 6-17 participated regularly in sports, down from 50% a decade earlier.

Registration Assistance Program

Providing Direct Aid & Capacity Building Support

The first facet of KPB’s Registration Assistance Program (RAP) is providing direct aid to pay league fees for families who can’t afford to.

KPB seeks out and partners with youth baseball leagues who have a system for providing aid to players with a demonstrated financial need. We then work with the league to determine how much aid is needed to cover the cost of participants experiencing financial hardship and write a check to cover those costs in part or in whole.

Another aspect of our registration assistance is helping leagues build capacity to create and run their own registration assistance. This includes:

Helping leagues create a program from scratch
Helping leagues market and inform families about available registration assistance
Helping leagues improve existing registration assistance programs
Helping leagues fundraise to improve their registration assistance reserves

Since launching our the KPB RAP in 2021, we’ve helped pay league fees for over three dozen players and partnered with 3 leagues to provide financial aid and capacity building support.
